Established in 1963, the Pathology Department of the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University), or CQHCWC, has developed into a medical technology department which can meet the center's clinical, scientific research and teaching needs. Covering an area of 350 square meters, the department's laboratory is well equipped with a pathological sampling room, freezing room, cytology laboratory, human papillomavirus (HPV) testing room, routine pathological technology room, special staining and immunohistochemical room, and more. It carries out procedures such as routine pathological biopsy diagnosis, rapid diagnosis of frozen section during operation, rapid paraffin pathological diagnosis, liquid-based exfoliative cytology diagnosis, difficult case consultation, immunohistochemical staining, special staining, and more. The department carries out about 25,000 biopsies and more than 50,000 cytologic examinations annually, boasting abundant experience in the diagnosis of common diseases, frequently-occurring diseases and rare diseases related to gynecology, obstetrics, breast and thyroid, and pediatrics.

The department has won one invention patent, one third-place prize of the Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Award and one third-place prize of the Chongqing Natural Science Award.
