Pharmacy Department
Founded in 1945, the Pharmacy Department of the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University), or CQHCWC, is a comprehensive department integrating drug security, pharmaceutical professional and technical services, teaching and scientific research.
The department is comprised of an outpatient pharmacy, inpatient pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) pharmacy, drug warehouse, clinical pharmacy, therapeutic drug monitoring room, intravenous drug allocation center, prescription working group and other departments. The office of the good clinical practice (GCP) institution is attached to the Pharmacy Department.
As a training base for clinical pharmacists in China, it has been appraised for two consecutive years as the key specialty construction project of clinical pharmacy in Chongqing (in obstetrics and gynecology and pediatric medication). It is also a unit of the Maternal and Child Pharmaceutical Professional Group of the Chongqing Pharmaceutical Administration and Quality Control Center and a deputy chair unit of the Hospital Pharmacy Professional Committee and the Precision Medicine Professional Committee of the Chongqing Pharmaceutical Association.
The department is currently staffed with 10 clinical pharmacists, specializing in pediatric medicine, antineoplastic drugs, anti-infective drugs, obstetrics and gynecology, and more. Some of the pharmacists have been granted the titles "Excellent Pharmacist of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association", "National Young Post Expert", "Excellent Pharmacist of Chongqing" and an "Excellent Clinical Pharmacist of Chongqing". Pharmacists in the department have participated in many national and municipal academic conferences and achieved strong results in industry competitions, such as the first-place prize among excellent papers of the 11th National Obstetrics and Gynecology Pharmacy Conference and the special grand prize of the Chongqing clinical pharmacist consultation practice case competition. The department has been awarded a number of collective awards, such as being named a typical case of deepening medical reform in Chongqing in 2021 and an excellent case in a competition on "Expanding the New Field of Pharmaceutical Services" among hospitals in Southwest China. It carries out blood concentration monitoring and drug gene testing to help improve the accuracy of pharmaceutical care, and its intravenous drug allocation center is one of the five pilot units in the city to collect fees for centralized drug allocation.
In the past three years, the Pharmacy Department has had 18 projects green-lighted, among which seven are at the provincial-ministerial level and nine are at the bureau-director level. It has participated in the compilation of several monographs and published more than 50 papers, including 19 collected by the Science Citation Index (SCI) and six by the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD). The department has also held many academic conferences, such as the "Chongqing Academic Conference on Maternal and Child Pharmacy" and "Maternal and Child Pharmacists Growth Plan Meeting". It has also won titles such as "advanced primary Party branch" in Chongqing, among others.
Technical expertise
The Pharmacy Department is patient-oriented, providing specific, accurate and intelligent pharmaceutical services. With the goal of becoming an intelligent pharmacy, the department is equipped with automatic and single-dose dispensing machines. It also has formed an in-hospital drug circulation information system (SPD system), which explains the use of drugs in detail through WeChat. The department carries out pre-prescription reviews and prescription reviews, uses an information-based rational drug use evaluation and supervision model based on a BI system, and implements big data-based mining of key drug use indicators and active early warning of abnormal drug use signals. It scores well in national tertiary public hospital performance evaluation indicators and has introduced a clinical pharmacist work platform and a working model centered on the department, and offers pharmaceutical services such as doctor's order review, pharmaceutical ward rounds, medication education, pharmaceutical monitoring, and consultation on difficult cases. A remote consultation platform for clinical pharmacists has also been built to provide guidance on pharmaceutical services and consultations on difficult and severe diseases for primary institutions.
In 2017, the department opened the first pregnancy and lactation pharmacist clinic in Chongqing, which carried out research on drug safety during pregnancy based on the pharmacist specialist outpatient model. The pregnancy and lactation network platform based on the WeChat mini-program can provide online consultation services.
In 2020, it was the first in Chongqing to open an assisted reproductive pharmacy clinic, and also opened a pediatric pharmacy clinic in 2021 and a climacteric physician-pharmacist joint clinic in 2022, creating a pharmacy cluster focusing on maternal and childcare.
