Reproductive Medicine Research Department (Chongqing Key Laboratory for Human Embryo Engineering)

Covering an area totaling 2,000 square meters, the Research Department of the Reproductive Medicine Center of the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University), or CQHCWC, includes four scientific research platforms, namely an embryology laboratory, molecular genetic laboratory, high-throughput sequencing laboratory, and cell biology laboratory. It was approved as the "Chongqing Reproductive Medicine Clinical Medical Research Center" in 2016 and as the "Chongqing Key Laboratory for Human Embryo Engineering" in 2018.

The department has a chairman of the Reproductive Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, a young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions of the National Health Commission, a chief medical expert in Chongqing, an outstanding professional in Chongqing, and a young and middle-aged high-end medical professional in Chongqing. It also boasts various large-scale instruments and equipment such as a time difference monitoring culture analysis system, microinjection system, living cell workstation, laser confocal microscope, and more.

In the past five years, the department has got the green light on more than 20 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and at the provincial-ministerial level. It has published more than 40 SCI (Science Citation Index) papers in CELL DISCOVERY, HUMAN REPRODUCTION UPDATE and other magazines. It has served as editor-in-chief of nearly 10 monographs, including Assisted Reproductive Technology Regulations and Guidelines published by the People's Medical Publishing House. In addition, the department has carried out various international exchange activities, having established long-term and stable cooperative relations with many internationally renowned universities.

Technical expertise

The department is well-positioned on basic and applied research, with the goal of building a first-class base for reproductive medical science research, personnel training and academic exchange, and is mainly engaged in:

1. Basic research: ①Regulation mechanism of metabolomics on early embryonic development; ②Exploration of methods and mechanisms for improving advanced age eggs; ③Research on the mechanism of environmental factors affecting embryonic development.

2. Clinical translation research on the application of artificial intelligence technology to the quality assessment of human early embryo development.

3. Development of automation equipment for human assisted reproduction laboratory, etc.
