A training session themed on baby-friendly hospital management and breastfeeding was held at the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University), or CQHCWC, in Southwest China's Chongqing, on Aug 4-5.

Wang Jian, secretary of the Party committee of the CQHCWC, addressed the event. The opening ceremony was presided over by Yu Youxia, director of the Nursing Department of the CQHCWC.

Using online recording and broadcasting, online live broadcasts and on-site training, the event involved the participation of nearly 3,000 medical workers from Chongqing and other places, attracting more than 130,000 online hits.

A total of 11 renowned industry experts–from the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Capital Medical University, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, and other medical institutions–were invited to the training.

They gave lectures on topics ranging from the impact of breastfeeding on maternal and infant health, breast problems and how they affect breastfeeding, and experts' consensus on common maternal infections and breastfeeding guidance, to the operation and management of pregnant women's schools.

Nine nursing teachers then carried out four live broadcasts focused on the full cycle of breastfeeding, highlighting current popular breastfeeding techniques. They also interacted with viewers.

Some trainees were also selected to receive practical training in the wards of the center.

Focusing on the current status of baby-friendly hospital management and breastfeeding, the training was expected to strengthen breastfeeding awareness among the city's medical workers, improve their theoretical and practical knowledge of breastfeeding, and play a positive role in regulating the management of baby-friendly hospitals, as well as ensuring the safety of mothers and babies.
