What you should know about breastfeeding family support
August 1-7, 2022 is the 31st World Breastfeeding Week. With the theme "Breastfeeding promotion and health education first", the event aims to mobilize medical institutions and all sectors of society that support breastfeeding to carry out breastfeeding publicity and education activities, highlighting the importance of health education and social support in protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding.
Breast milk is the best natural food for babies and a mother’s greatest gift to her baby, but the success and persistence of breastfeeding come not only from a mother's efforts, but also from the support of family members. A good breastfeeding family helps the mother achieve breastfeeding in terms of behavior, nutrition, and psychology.
In order to create a supportive environment for breastfeeding, 15 departments including the National Health Commission jointly issued the Breastfeeding Promotion Action Plan (2021-2025), in which it was proposed that by 2025, the awareness rate of essential breastfeeding know-how among families with babies should exceed 70 percent, and the breastfeeding support rate of family members should exceed 80 percent.

The father and caregivers such as grandmothers are the first people responsible for ensuring the health of their babies. They are also important family members for creating a breastfeeding family atmosphere and helping mothers persist with breastfeeding.

The Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University), or CQHCWC, proposes that in order to protect, promote and support breastfeeding, everyone should actively support and participate in the process, offer timely and appropriate help to mothers who breastfeed their babies, and jointly promote breastfeeding.
