The opening ceremony of the Chongqing eighth perinatal specialized nurse training session was held at the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (Women and Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University), or CQHCWC, in Southwest China's Chongqing, on July 4.

A total of 35 trainees signed up for the training, from places including Tibet autonomous region, Shaanxi, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces.

Li Fang, vice-president of the CQHCWC, attended the opening ceremony, together with directors and head nurses from relevant departments.

Addressing the ceremony, Li briefed the hardware and software conditions of perinatal services at the CQHCWC, pointing out that the quality of perinatal services is closely related to the safety of mothers and babies and the future of the country. She said that perinatal medical and nursing workers should make overall plans related to services, technology, professionals, and management to improve the service ability of perinatal nurses.

Li emphasized that the perinatal period is a key step in preventing birth defects, improving population quality, and ensuring the safety and health of pregnant women. She said she expected trainees to seize upon learning opportunities, identify weak points of knowledge and skills and learn something following the three-month training, so as to apply what they have learned and contribute to the high-quality development of the cause of maternal and child health.

Including a one-month theoretical study and two-month clinical practices, the training session aims to improve the technical and service capabilities of perinatal specialist nurses. Well-known industry experts will be invited to offer lessons.

Through systematic and standardized training, trainees are expected to improve their skills and be able to offer higher-quality and safer perinatal services.
