Expert seminar on maternity safety held in Chongqing

Hosted by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission and organized by the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children, or CQHCWC, the 2021 expert seminar on maternity safety management in Southwest China's Chongqing was held on Dec 24.

More than 20 officials and experts attended the seminar to further clarify the causes and influencing factors of maternal deaths in 2021, so as to provide a basis for health administrative decision-making.

They included Tang Xuyan, director of the Division of Maternal and Child Health at the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission; Qi Hongbo, president of the CQHCWC and experts from the municipal obstetrics, gynecology, endocrinology, hematology, ICU, nursing and group health care departments.

Wen Xia, from the Division of Maternal and Child Health at the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, presided over the meeting.

Experts discussed seven cases of maternal deaths in 2021, one by one. A chief reviewing obstetrics expert gave a briefing on their medical history, conducted a systematic review according to the general characteristics, high-risk factors, delivery, referrals, treatment and other situations of the pregnant patients. There was an analysis of the influencing factors of their death, followed by questions, suggestions and preliminary review opinions.

The obstetrics evaluation expert and other experts made additional speeches, before voting on a review conclusion.

During the meeting, cases of significance for mother and child safety education and precedents were also selected, to review and study during 2022's annual event.
