The Chongqing Pharmaceutical Association recently held the hospital pharmacy academic annual conference – as well as the best clinical pharmacist consultation practice case forum – in Southwest China's Chongqing.
The Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children, or CQHCWC, won the grand prize for clinical pharmacist consultation cases during the events.
During the competition, 62 clinical pharmacist consultation cases from 33 hospitals in the city were submitted, which were divided into 10 groups. Outstanding cases were selected after two rounds of blind evaluations by experts from both within and outside the city.
Winning the grand prize was the case – "fetal risk assessment of a case of a rheumatoid arthritis patient taking leflunomide and methotrexate for unexpected pregnancy" – submitted by Zheng Dan from the Pharmacy Department of the CQHCWC.
It described in detail the clinical pharmacists' assessment of the fetal risk of drug exposure during pregnancy, medication guidance and continuous follow-ups for the patient, as well as good maternal and infant outcomes. This is said to have demonstrated the clinical pharmacists' participation in pharmacy clinics during pregnancy and lactation.
In recent years, the CQHCWC has been exploring new models of pharmaceutical services, upgrading the service content, as well as encouraging pharmacists to participate in the clinical drug treatments of patients in an all-round way.
Moving forward, plans are for the center to continue to explore the construction of a pharmaceutical service model featuring a full-life cycle of women and children, so as to promote the improvement of pharmaceutical service capabilities and high-quality development.
