The Perinatal Surgical Department is one of the key departments for the construction of the Perinatal Medical Center at the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC). The department is divided into three sub-specialty groups: the fetal surgical, the neonatal surgical and the pediatric surgical departments.

Since its establishment on Jan 18, 2021, the fetal surgical department has completed an operation that is considered to be the most difficult one in the field of fetal intrauterine treatment – fetal endoscopic tracheal occlusion or FETO, for congenital diaphragmatic hernia. A variety of fetal surgical operations have also been carried out, such as laser coagulation of placental blood vessels under a fetal microscope, for the treatment of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

The Perinatal Surgical Department of the CQHCWC is one of the few centers in China that can offer a full range of fetal intrauterine treatment services.

The neonatal surgical department and the pediatric surgical department are known for their diagnosis and treatment of neonatal and pediatric chest and abdomen diseases, such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, lung cyst adenoma, intestinal atresia, among others. The departments have rich clinical experience in the minimally invasive treatment of neonatal and pediatric diseases, such as thoracoscopic diaphragmatic hernia repairs and laparoscopic duodenal rhomboidal anastomosis.
