The Fifth Training Course of Asthma Management and Pulmonary Function Testing for Children was held on Dec 5 at the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children, or CQHCWC, located in Southwest China's Chongqing.

Held both on-site and online, the event attracted the participation of more than 100 pediatric-related staff members, who came from all levels of maternity and child health institutions in the city. Over 3,000 viewers participated in the event online.

On-site attendees included Wang Jian, secretary of the CQHCWC's Party committee and Fu Zhou, deputy secretary of the Party committee of the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Wang emphasized that children's health is an important cornerstone of national health and is also related to the happiness and harmony of hundreds of millions of families and the future development of the nation.

She said the training would help spread the cutting-edge concepts of pediatrics, promote new pediatric diagnosis and treatment technologies, promote the standardized diagnosis and treatment of childhood asthma and further improve the health of children.

Following the opening ceremony, six well-known domestic pediatric experts – including Professor Lu Quan from the Children's Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Professor Li Xuemei from the CQHCWC – gave lectures on a series of topics.

These ranged from the diagnosis and treatment of infant wheezing – as well as the diagnosis, treatment and standardized management of critically ill children with asthma – to the relationship between children's wheezing diseases and intestinal microecology, and growth and development.

Covering rich content and strong practicability, the lectures were well received by attendees.

It is expected that the training course will help further improve pediatricians' skills and the standardized management of childhood asthma – as well as promote development of the children's respiratory medicine sector in Chongqing.
