The Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children, or CQHCWC – located in Southwest China's Chongqing – on Dec 8 sent 14 of its physicians to maternity and child health hospitals in Tongnan and Liangping districts.
From the obstetrics, neonatology and other departments, it's understood that these physicians will offer full-time medical services there for one year.
The move aimed to leverage the specialist resources of the CQHCWC and help improve medical service capabilities in the wider municipality – as well as to boost the strength of the member units of the Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Specialty Alliance.
On the day of departure, the support team led by Dan Yang and Zhou Wei – both vice-presidents of the CQHCWC – offered free clinic services to local patients in the aforementioned two districts, benefiting more than 100 residents.
Following the free clinics, officials from the health commissions of Tongnan and Liangping districts and the CQHCWC attended a meeting – exchanging ideas in enhancing communications, strengthening personnel management and work arrangements to support primary units in the alliance.

In 2017 the CQHCWC moved to establish the Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Medical Consortium, also known as the Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Specialty Alliance. It covers 39 district and county-level maternity and child health hospitals in Chongqing, as well as some maternity and child health hospitals and people's hospitals in surrounding areas such as Sichuan and Guizhou provinces.
Since that time, the CQHCWC has used its technical advantages, talent advantages and management advantages – exploring ways to strengthen the cultivation of grassroots staff members, advance the development of the alliance, as well as to promote the hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system.
Moving forward, plans are for the center to continue to improve the talent team-building system and make a greater contribution to the development of high-quality maternal and child health in Chongqing.
