CQHCWC offers comprehensive menopausal health care for women

Updated: 2021-11-17

Menopause, a transitional period for women from childbearing to old age, can last for 15-20 years. During this period, women's ovarian function declines and estrogen secretion decreases, which may lead to chronic diseases such as senile vaginitis, urethritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer's disease.

Women should therefore attach great importance to menopause, adjusting their lifestyle, diet and nutritional intake, receiving health screenings and sex hormone therapy under the guidance of doctors if necessary, and working to prevent diseases caused by the decline of ovarian function to improve their quality of life and health in old age.

As a national specialty construction unit for menopausal health care, the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC) boasts a professional medical team and related facilities and equipment. It has established a multidisciplinary collaboration management model centered on menopausal women's health care and encompassing psychology, nutrition, pelvic floor treatment, breast treatment, internal medicine, pharmacy, and Chinese medicine.

The center offers comprehensive physical and mental health care services for menopausal women as follows:

1. Health screening assessment and file management:

It evaluates women's menopausal symptoms, pelvic floor condition, nutritional weight, psychology, and more, conducts routine physical examinations and gynecological examinations, offers blood glucose, blood lipid, cervical cytology, pelvic ultrasound, breast ultrasound, body composition analysis, bone density and other checks if necessary, and provides file management. It is recommended that women aged 40 and over and those with premature ovarian failure be evaluated once a year.

2. Project management of sex hormone therapy:

Those with indicators for sex hormone therapy will be transferred to the management of sex hormone therapy projects based on a screening assessment and patients' willingness. Regular follow-up visits will be offered after one month, three months, and six months of treatment to learn about treatment effects and adverse reactions and to adjust the medication regimen and dosage in a timely manner.

It is recommended that women receive a screening once a year to evaluate the pros and cons of sex hormone therapy and decide whether to continue the therapy.

Diagnosis and treatment of perimenopausal menstrual disorders, abnormal uterine bleeding (such as endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial polyps, uterine fibroids, and adenomyoma), and problems related to urogenital atrophy, low bone mass and osteoporosis are also offered.
