The final of the First "Maternal and Child Health Cup" English Speech Contest in Chongqing concluded on Sept 28. It was hosted by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission and organized by the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC) in Southwest China's Chongqing.

It was held to promote the high-quality development of the maternal and child health sector in Chongqing.

A total of 16 contestants from 11 districts and counties participated in the final following two rounds of competitions, and the final was attended by more than 160 contestants and guests from 40 districts and counties in the city.

Five experts from units including the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, Chongqing Medical University, and Sichuan International Studies University were invited to serve as judges.

Wang Jian, secretary of the Party committee of the CQHCWC, said during the event that it measured the effectiveness of English education and training among health workers in the maternal and child health sector, and is of great significance to improving the comprehensive service capabilities of women and children's health institutions in the city.

He Lifang, a second-level inspector from the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission, said that the contest has become a platform for English enthusiasts to showcase and improve their English skills.

She expressed hope that all maternal and child health service organizations would take the contest as an opportunity to cultivate more talent with an international perspective and strengthen international exchange and cooperation.

Following three rounds of contests, Yao Yao from the CQHCWC and Wan Yachen from the Third People's Hospital in Changshou district won first place.

The contest is believed to have strengthened the English language learning atmosphere among the city's health workers and the foreign-related service capabilities of maternal and child health workers.
