To implement the national requirements for nosocomial infections management, the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC) in Southwest China's Chongqing organized a cross-sectional survey of nosocomial infections on Sept 23.

The survey, carrying out both bedside surveys and medical records reference, aimed to learn about the hospital's current nosocomial infection situation and evaluate the rationality of the use of antimicrobials and the effectiveness of nosocomial infections management.

A total of 412 inpatients in 23 wards were surveyed.

Before the survey, 12 participating clinicians received training to ensure the quality of the survey.

They and all staff members in the infection control department were grouped to clinical departments to conduct a survey on all hospitalized patients on Sept 22, ranging from infection status, infection types, and infectious pathogens, to the use of antibacterial agents.

The survey has provided key data and a strong basis of evidence for the center to formulate relevant intervention measures.

It has also enhanced the awareness of infection prevention and control among staff members at the CQHCWC.
