The Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Department of Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children – which is located in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality – held a series of activities to mark the 26th National Eye Caring Day in China, which fell on June 6.

The CQHCWC department, together with departments of health education and outpatient services and the school of medical technology at Chongqing Medical and Pharmaceutical College, on June 2 hosted eye care promotional activities at the Renhe Chang'an Kindergarten in Yubei district.

Doctors gave advice to the kids and offered them virtual reality experiences, which stimulated eyesight problems such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, to enhance their awareness of eye care and the need for eye protection.

Doctors from the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Department also offered free eye examinations to 64 children, including examinations of vision, eye positions and anterior segments. Experts say that regular eye examinations for preschool children can prevent and control the occurrence of myopia in time.

Volunteers also handed out brochures, to promote myopia prevention and inform the children about the condition.

In addition, CQHCWC is promoting eye care at the hospital. It played popular science videos on its TV screens on June 1-6. Staff members handed out leaflets to the patients and their parents, to raise the public's awareness.

The Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Department is Chongqing's kids and adolescents myopia prevention and control base. It is mainly engaged in guiding the eye health care of preschool children, as well as promoting eye health and vision examinations of children aged 0-6 – and boosting the general awareness of schools, parents and children in the area.
