The fifth session of the midwifery technique training course in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality commenced at Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC) on May 6. The course will run for two months.

During the period, 30 midwives from medical institutions in Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces, as well as Chongqing municipality, will receive professional training.

Dan Yang, vice-president of CQHCWC, addressed the opening ceremony, pointing out that the safety of mothers and infants is an important indicator to measure the development level of society, the economy, medical services and maternal and children's healthcare in a country or region.

Strengthening training on midwifery techniques, therefore, is of great significance, she said.

Through theoretical lectures, skills training, clinical-simulation exercises, seminars on vaginal delivery, clinical practice and other educational activities, the training session aims to promote advanced midwifery techniques to medical institutions. It also aims to provide a platform for attendees to exchange techniques and learn about cutting-edge innovations.

As one of the midwifery technique training bases of the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission (formerly the Chongqing Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission), CQHCWC will give full play to its advantages to cultivate a high-quality and high-level midwifery team. The health center will also promote the safety and quality of obstetric services in the city to ensure the safety of pregnant women and newborns.
