Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC)'s specialized department for twins was recently approved by the China Maternal and Child Health Association as a standardized outpatient department for twin pregnancy and a pilot unit for the standardized management improvement project of twin pregnancy.

It is Chongqing's first and only twin pregnancy standardized management institution recognized by the association.

In 2016, CQHCWC set up the specialized department for twins (the obstetrics second department) to carry out systematic specialist treatment and management for twins.

The average gestational week for twins is 35.3 weeks at CQHCWC, which is higher than the national average levels of both China and the United States. The survival rate of premature twin babies less than 32 weeks is 84.85 percent.

In 2018, CQHCWC joined hands with the University of Magdeburg in Germany to establish the Perinatal Medical Center, which meets the German Class I standard (the highest level) and can offer "one-stop" perinatal full-process management for twin babies.

The hospital is also the only one in China that boasts the Giraffe Shuttle, which is a piece of advanced rescue and transport equipment known as the "Rolls Royce" for newborns.

In 2020, the center completed the fetoscopic endoluminal tracheal occlusion (FETO), which is regarded as the most difficult surgery in fetal intrauterine treatment. It is now the only perinatal center in China that can carry out this operation.

The center can carry out all intrauterine surgeries for twin fetuses and is one of the fetal medical centers with the most fetal surgical methods and comprehensive coverage of fetal diseases in the country.

The specialized department for twins and the Perinatal Medical Center of CQHCWC will continue to offer compassionate services for mothers undergoing a twin pregnancy and twin babies.
