Neonatal Screening Center

The Neonatal Screening Center of Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC) is approved by the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission (formerly the Chongqing Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission) as the neonatal disease screening center in Chongqing. It is a clinic that integrates genetic disease screening, diagnosis and treatment for children, as well as scientific research and teaching.

The center has 11 staff members and the director is Miao Jingkun, a PhD holder who once studied in the United States. Three of the staff members have a doctorate or master's degree and three have senior professional titles. Team members are all innovative, dedicated and caring.

Covering an area of about 260 square meters, the center organizes and manages the screening of neonatal diseases in Chongqing, providing personnel training, technical guidance, quality and information management and related health education services.

It is also responsible for screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up treatment, as well as genetic counseling for pediatric genetic metabolic diseases of newborns in 17 districts and counties.

The center has a neonatal disease screening and mass spectrometry technology platform, with equipment such as ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometers, gas chromatography mass spectrometry analyzers and automatic time-resolved fluorescence detectors. The center also has the Chongqing neonatal disease screening data management system.

It carries out screening of phenylketonuria (PKU), congenital hypothyroidism (CH), congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), red blood cell glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency and multiple genetic and metabolic diseases (tandem mass spectrometry), as well as vitamin analysis.

The center will continue to integrate the latest medical research results and new technologies to develop and transform more screening projects and provide support for the early screening and diagnosis of children's genetic diseases.

It also carries out precision diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases and clinical scientific research on nutrition and metabolism. The center has presided over multiple high-level scientific research projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau and the Chongqing Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, among others.

The center has published more than 10 Science Citation Index (SCI) papers and more than 10 Chinese core journal papers. It also boasts one national invention patent and participated in writing a textbook.
