International Women's Day is a festival celebrated on March 8 every year to mark the important contributions and outstanding achievements made by women in the economic, political and social fields, among others.

The first International Women's Day was observed on March 8, 1911, and Chinese women celebrated the day for the first time in 1924.

In December 1949, the Chinese government stipulated that Women's Day is celebrated annually on March 8.

The United Nations has celebrated International Women's Day since 1975, recognizing that ordinary women have equal participation in society. In 1977, the General Assembly passed a resolution inviting each country to select a day of the year to celebrate Women's Day in accordance with its own history and national traditions. For the United Nations, International Women's Day is on March 8.
