Recently, Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC) -- located in Southwest China's Chongqing -- successfully treated a pregnant hemophiliac and helped her successfully deliver a baby boy, according to an Aug 5 report on the CQHCWC public WeChat account.
Because of the woman's condition -- hemophiliacs have insufficient clotting agents that can lead to excessive bleeding -- CQHCWC officials said the procedure was potentially critical.
Because of that the various departments of the hospital rallied, carrying out multidisciplinary collaboration, setting up a rescue team and putting together an emergency plan.
The departments involved were the Obstetrics Department, Department of Intensive Care Medicine, Department of Operation and Anesthesiology, Neonatal Department, Clinical Laboratory and the Pharmacy Intravenous Admixture Services of CQHCWC.
Considering the patient's pregnancy tests suggested placenta previa, a placenta implantation was excluded and in the light of a scarred uterus and other factors, the hospital decided to terminate the pregnancy by cesarean section.
Officials said the result was the successful birth of a baby boy, who was transferred to the intensive care department to continue his care treatment until discharge.
