Medics from the Perinatal Medical Center at the Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children (CQHCWC), located in Southwest China's Chongqing, successfully recounted one of their success stories in the treatment an ultra-premature test-tube infant, according to CQHCWC officials.

The medics recalled that on Nov 30, 2018, the parents of test-tube baby girl --Tiantian -- came to the CQHCWC to express their gratitude to professionals at the hospital's Perinatal Medical Center recently.

According to Tiantian's mother, she conceived her baby after receiving a fourth embryo transfer and she said that a doctor told her that could be the last chance to have a baby.

She said that unfortunately on Sept 4 of 2018, she had the sign of approaching parturition at 24 gestational weeks, almost 16 weeks earlier than normal term and then she was transported into the Perinatal Medical Center of the CQHCWC from her local hospital.

Tiantian was an extremely premature infant, weighing only 870 grams at birth, more than three months before the expected date of birth, she said.

In order to treat and rescue Tiantian, the center urgently coordinated multidisciplinary teams which swung into action. Medics from the Obstetrics and Neonatology Departments started gentle resuscitation of Tiantian and provided a series of measures -- such as providing warmth, delaying umbilical cord ligation, early respiratory support and stabilization of vital signs.

After the baby’s situation became stable, a special transport system for premature infants was immediately used to transport Tiantian to neonatal intensive care unit ward of the neonatology department within one minute for follow-up treatment.

The center quickly formulated a set of treatment plan and daily diagnosis program for Tiantian in detail and arranged nurses to provide special and meticulous care, 24 hours a day.

During the entire treatment process, internationally advanced technology -- as well as methods and equipment for the rescue and treatment of ultra-premature infants were fully deployed -- providing individualized and protective treatment to the maximum extent, laying a foundation for the baby's good long-term quality of life, hospital officials said.

They said that after 70 days of treatment, all medical and life indicators for Tiantian met the discharge criteria and the newborn was with her parents.
